Manager Terry Francona praised his effort on defense to get the first out of the inning. “That was a pretty good play because Hedgey had no idea (where the ball was), ” Francona said. “That was pretty athletic on Clase’s part. ”Bieber tossed 26 pitches in the first inning, allowing two walks and a pair of hits, but he struck out Lowe with two runners on base to escape further damage. “I think he was mad, ” Francona said. “The fact that he didn’t give up more than one, it’s not how you want to start the game. But he got into his delivery and then you saw quicker innings. ”Bieber said he is constantly searching for that rhythm in every start.
